Jessica – our professional nomad – arrived in Bielefeld, Germany, back in 2013.
It was a new chapter in her life, but also a major plot twist for the company. She’d already established the business in different locations over the years, but now she relished the vibrant startup vibe that came with the move.
As she settled into this new city and made new connections and friends, one question came up time and time again: How do you know when you have found the place we all like to call home?
“I was keen to know what my friends and the people around me thought. It started with informal, off-the-record conversations until, one night, I had the idea to take a more serious approach and get it on record. A podcast seemed the perfect format: it wasn’t about the look, but just voices and stories. This has been crucial in maintaining the informality and authenticity of the conversations.
They’re casual chats guided by my questions. I don’t cut or edit, so everything you hear is the raw material. It’s real.”

Hi_mat started in Bielefeld but now has a Berlin edition too. We’re excited to see how it will grow (even internationally as we expand towards the Netherlands).
We want to hear your stories! If you’d like to join Jessica and Jeanette in sharing what ‘home’ means to you, get in touch. We’d love to hear from and meet you.
